While the Vikings stadium effort is picking up momentum there are still significant hurdles to clear. Here are some of the reasons why:

"The (Vikings' owners) Wilfs ... need to arrange for a local partner. That's not something the state could or should do. The team needs to secure a local partner. They have been working on that. That's a prerequisite." - Rep. Morrie Lanning, R-Moorhead

"We're making good headway. I don't think there is any guarantee that a bill is actually going to get introduced. You can't really start a good discussion on an issue around here until somebody actually introduces a piece of legislation and you get them at the committee table." - Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook

"The biggest impediment is time. It may be that they just run out of time." - Charlie Weaver, executive director, Minnesota Business Partnership

"We want to focus on getting the budget balanced and resolved and we want to focus on improving our education system so we can be a leader in the race to the top in education reform. Neither of those things have been addressed yet in this session. So those need to be focused on before any meaningful discussion of a Vikings stadium." - Gov. Tim Pawlenty

"Without leadership from the governor it's unlikely a stadium bill passes. I don't think I as majority leader can make it happen." - Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller, DFL-Minneapolis

"Honestly I haven't really felt any heat. It's been chilly around here on this issue." House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, DFL-Minneapolis

"Along with no tax increase, no general fund revenues are going to be transferred over. We're not going to shift anything over that would have otherwise gone to education or human services. That just absolutely won't happen." - Rep. Morrie Lanning, R-Moorhead

"Getting the budget back in balance is the No. 1 priority of the session. We haven't done that yet. There's the uncertainty over the additional federal money that's coming. ... We don't know when that's going to show up." - Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook
