Victor A. Horne Jr., 83, of Pelican Rapids, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 in Emmanuel Community Services, Detroit Lakes, after a long struggle with health problems.
Victor was born the son of Victor and Svannau Horne on March 23, 1925 at Penn, N.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the destroyer USS Healy during the thick of the Pacific war. Following his discharge, he attended North Dakota State University, graduating in 1950 with a degree in agriculture. He was involved in many campus organizations, was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, and was renowned for his lifelong musical talent.
Vic married Meredith (Susie) Sorley in 1948; following their graduations, they moved to Reynolds, N.D., where they farmed until 1966. In 1973 they moved to Kansas City, Mo., where Vic managed a facility for Habco, Inc., in partnership with his brother Don.
Following his retirement in 1988, the couple moved to their home on Pelican Lake. Meredith passed away in 1998.
Surviving Vic are his sons, Joel (Maureen) of Grand Forks and Dudley (Jennifer) of Hillsboro, N.D.; daughter Kristine of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; and brother Ray of Fargo.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Meredith; and brother Donald.

There will be a memorial gathering from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m., in Cormorant Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park.
