MANKATO, Minn. -- Montana Vichorek scored a power-play goal 56 seconds into overtime Friday night to lift the Bemidji State women's hockey team past Minnesota State Mankato 2-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.
The Beavers outshots the Mavericks 33-18, but only got two of those attempts past Mankato goaltender Alli Altmann.
Bemidji State improved to 8-7-2 on the season. Mankato fell to 6-12-2.
The Mavericks scored first when Kathleen Rogan beat BSU?goalie Zuzana Tomcikova late in the first period.
But BSU?tied it in the second on a goal by Emily Erickson, with assists from Lauren Williams and Mackenzie Thurston.
The Beavers put 12 shots on goal in the third period, but Altmann rejected all of them.
It didn't take long for Vichorek to decide things in the extra session. The Beavers were still on a power play that started late in the third when Mankato was called for too many players on the ice.
Erika Wheelhouse and Erin Cody assisted on the game-winner.
The teams conclude their two-game series today at 3:07 p.m. on the Mavericks' ice.
