The Bemidji VFW baseball team rebounded from an opening round loss to capture the consolation title at the Alexandria Invitational this weekend.
Bemidji lost to Roseville 9-2 in the first round, then stopped the Alexandria Green 7-6 with a last inning rally and pummeled Madison 16-2.
It lifted Brad Johnson's forces to 14-8 entering the final 10 days of the regular season.
It starts Tuesday with Detroit Lakes here at Sagedahl at 3 for two games, shifts to Duluth East for a Friday twin bill and returns to Sagedahl for two games Saturday with East Grand Forks.
Those two teams end the season Monday at East Side.Bemidji takes a one game lead in the district race and can clinch the title by sweeping the final six games.
At Alex, Roseville scored six times in the first two innings to put their game away. The Twin Cities team pounded out 13 hits off two Bemidji hurlers with Jake Urban taking the loss.
Alexandria overcame a 3-0 deficit with six runs in the middle innings before Bemidji scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to win.
Collin Leif led off the seventh with a single and pinch runner Urban stole second. He was sacrificed to third and scored on Ernie Heifort's single. Another sacrifice moved Heifort to second and Cole Bardwell sent him home with a single to win the game.
Booster Russ had a triple and single and Bardwell a double and two singles to pace Bemidji's 10-hit attack.
In the consolation final, Bemidji exploded for nine runs in the first and closed out the game in five.
The Vets pounded out 17 hits with Kris Berndt getting four, Matt Schneider three and Mitch Hendricks, Kevin Murphy, Chase Vogt and Urban two. Berndt and Urban had doubles.
Roseville and the Alexandria Red met in the title game.
