Verna Floraine Hovin, 86, of Park Rapids, formerly of Menahga, died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Care-Age Country Home in Park Rapids.
She was born on Feb. 18, 1923 at Renneberg Township, Becker County, to Bill and Olga Wuollet. She grew up and attended country school at Renneberg Township near Hillview.
She married Waino R. Hovin. They lived in St. Paul where they raised their two sons. She worked in St. Paul for 10 years at Lee's Village Inn Restaurant as a waitress. She then went to work as a cook at the Schmidt Brewing Co. in St. Paul. She retired in 1985 and she and her husband moved to Menahga and then later to Park Rapids. She lived at the Woodland Assisted Living in Menahga and then in 2007 she moved to the Care-Age Country Home in Park Rapids.
She was a member of the Guy L. McDermit VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary in Menahga.
She is survived by a son, Wayne, of Park Rapids; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Carol Johnson, of Hibbing, and Lois (Fred) Jacob, of Mountain Iron; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids with Pastor Loren Ferch as officiant. Special music will be "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder."
Interment: Menahga City Cemetery.
