The median cable barrier will be installed in intermittent locations from the east junction with state Highway 89 to the exit ramp of U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 71 South, according to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The protective barriers are being installed as safety measures in the event of a vehicle crossover crash between divided highways.

MnDOT stressed that motorists should slow down and be alert to workers and equipment moving in and out of the highway median.

The cable barrier project is expected to be completed by Sept. 25, weather permitting.
