Upstream TV hosts telethon for homeless
BEMIDJI — Upstream TV will host a telethon from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday to raise funds and awareness for the homeless community in Bemidji.
The raised funds will be given to the Peoples Church of Bemidji, through which a group has been meeting to address homeless issues and provide shelter to get everyone through the cold winter months safely.
The telethon will feature, on Upstream TV, programs that address the issues of homelessness. It will also feature a locally produced program titled “Day and Night,” which discusses the issues of homelessness with those working on the front lines to address it.
A group of volunteers, including people who are homeless, will be answering calls and taking pledges. The public also will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss aspects of homelessness during the telethon.
Breaks will feature local comedians and other entertainment segments.
“Our goal is to raise as much money as possible during the telethon,” said Mike Bredon, Upstream TV executive director.
The telethon is striving to make people more aware of homelessness in Bemidji.
The telethon will be shown on Upstream TV, channel 18 on both Paul Bunyan and Midcontinent, as well as streamed live online at www.upstreamtv.com.
To donate during the telethon, call 333-0733.
