Upper Iowa sweeps
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State University baseball team left 23 runners on the bases in 8-1 and 8-4 loses to Upper Iowa University in an Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Friday at the BSU diamond. The Peacocks took three of the four games in the Thursday-Friday series.
Logan Kalis started for BSU (13-13, 6-6 NSIC) in the first game and allowed one run in the top of the first. The Beavers answered with a solo run in the bottom of the second when Juan Molero singles and eventually scored on Riley Hirsch's infield hit.
The Peacocks scored one in the third, two in the fourth four in the fifth to increase their cushion to 8-1.
BSU had seven hits but standed 11 runners.
Trevor Purvis and Hirsch recorded multi-hit games for each had two hits.
In the rematch the visitors opened a 6-0 advantage in the fourth. Lewis Baumann's home run in the lower eighth brought BSU within 7-4 but the Beavers would get no closer.
Bemidji State had nine hits and left 12 men on base.
The Beavers resume their schedule Wednesday when they host St. Cloud in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
