Upper Iowa snaps Bemidji State's winning streak

BEMIDJI – Upper Iowa University soccer team handed Bemidji State University its second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) loss of the season and snapped a six game winning streak, defeating the Beavers 1-0 Saturday at the BSU Soccer Complex.

UIU scored in the 17th minute when Valeria Ptsinski netted her second goal of the season from the edge of the six-yard box off a cross.

The Peacocks would take a 1-0 lead into half time.

The Beavers came out strong in the second half outshooting UIU 8-5 in the half, but Upper Iowa would hold on to win 1-0.

Bemidji Stae outshot Upper Iowa 17-13 while notching five shots on goal.

BSU goalkeeper Sonjia Barr (So., Duluth, Minn.) made six saves and allowed one goal in the game. She is now 7-1-1 on the season.

BSU moved to 9-3-1 on the season and 7-2-1 in conference play.

The loss Saturday was the first loss Bemidji State has suffered at home since Oct. 21, 2011—a streak spanning nine games.

The Beavers return to action tomorrow hosting Winona State in the Cheryl Smyth Cancer Awareness game at the BSU Soccer Complex. The game is sscheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
