UPDATED: Winter storm warning issued for Bemidji area

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Bemidji area from noon Monday to noon Tuesday as another strong storm system is headed for the region.

Heavy snow is expected across southeast North Dakota into portions of northwest and west central Minnesota. A band is 6 to 10 inches is expected along and east of a line from Wahpeton to Fosston to Baudette.

Northerly winds with gusts up to 40 mph will develop and continue into Tuesday morning, producing blowing and drifting snow and significantly reduced visibility. Travel will be hazardous.

Here is the latest forecast for the Bemidji area:

This Afternoon: Snow. High near 38. East wind around 8 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow and areas of blowing snow. Low around 16. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 9 to 12 mph increasing to between 18 and 21 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Tuesday: Snow likely and widespread blowing snow before noon, then a chance of snow after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 18. Blustery, with a northwest wind around 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5. Blustery, with a west northwest wind between 13 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 15. West northwest wind between 9 and 13 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 18.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23.

Friday Night: A slight chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 7.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 21.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 2.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 17.
