Updated: Drivers injured in two-vehicle crash Tuesday in Beltrami County
Two vehicles collided Tuesday afternoon in the intersection of state Highway 89 and Beltrami County Road 32, causing injuries to both drivers.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol out of Thief River Falls:
Helen B. Kaasa, 76, of Puposky, was driving a 2002 Mercury Sable east on County Road 32 (Lumberjack Road) while Duane E. Fairbanks, 57, of Red Lake, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado north on Highway 89. A witness reported that the Sable pulled out in front of the Silverado pickup before the vehicles crashed. The accident was reported at 4:32 p.m.
Both drivers were taken to North Country Regional Hospital. Fairbanks, who was wearing a seat belt in the crash, was listed in fair condition Wednesday afternoon. Kaasa, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transferred to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D. MeritCare said no information would be released on Kaasa's condition.
The Sable was totaled. The Silverado sustained severe damage.
