Authorities say a boy displayed the handgun in the doorway of a classroom on the second floor of the school about 10:30 a.m.

After the incident was reported, police locked down the school and established a security perimeter. Authorities then began searching in the school for the student who was located and attempted to run from the building. Police also recovered a handgun.

The 14-year-old boy is an eighth-grader at the school. He was treated at Regina Medical Center for a minor hand injury before being interviewed and booked into the Dakota County juvenile detention facility in Hastings.

Police also conducted a security sweep of the school and no other suspects were located. The school lockdown was then lifted.
