United Way of Bemidji Area announces fundraising total, award winners
The 2011 campaign for the United Way of Bemidji Area generated $392,001.93 to help partner agencies which focus on education, income and health, the organization's leaders announced Tuesday night at its annual Victory Dinner.
The campaign marked the 25th anniversary for the local United Way, which had set a goal of collecting $420,000 in donations last year.
In December, Executive Director Tanya Hasbargen said the United Way was short of its goal and asked area businesses and residents to help bridge the gap. She said a slow local economy impacted donations to the United Way and partnering agencies.
In its 25 years, the United Way of Bemidji Area has received nearly $7.1 million in donations.
