BEMIDJI – The 10th-ranked University of North Dakota women’s hockey team completed a two-game sweep of Bemidji State University on Sunday afternoon with a 7-3 victory at the Sanford Center. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Beavers in WCHA and was the team’s sixth consecutive loss against UND.

BSU dropped to 2-8-2 overall and 1-6-1-0 in the WCHA while North Dakota improved to 7-5-0 and 6-4-0.

Bemidji State started fast Sunday as Emily Erickson scored 1:31 into the action off MacKenzie Thurston’s assist.

UND answered just 39 seconds later, however, when Monique Lamoureux beat BSU goaltender Jessica Havel with a strong shot from the right circle. Lamoureux’s tally capped the scoring in a first period that saw BSU emerge with a 10-8 advantage in shots.

The second period also began with a BSU goal. Working on a power play that carried over from the first period, the Beavers regained the lead when a dump-in by Thurston fooled UND goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie and found the back of the net. UND knotted things up only 20 ticks later on Jocelyn Lamoureux first of three goals on the day.

UND pulled ahead 3-2 a minutes after tying the score and padded its lead less than two minutes later. The visitors posted three more goals in the final seven minutes of the frame to make it 7-2. After tying the game at two, Jocelyn Lamoureux sandwiched the final two goals of her hat trick between goals by Michelle Karvinen and Jordan Slavin. Havel was replaced in the cage by freshman Alexane Rodrigue after Slavin made it 6-2.

Rodrigue was solid, stopping nine of 10 shots and turning away the final seven UND offerings after Monique Lamoureux completed North Dakota’s scoring at 16:59 of the second period on the man advantage.

BSU competed well in the third and Sadie Lundquist made it 7-3 with a power-play goal with 1:12 remaining, completing a nice tic-tac-toe play at the side of the net.

Next weekend the Beavers will head south to face Minnesota State Mankato before coming home to host the Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota before winter break.
