GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Bemidji State women's hockey team dropped its second straight game to No. 8 North Dakota as the Lamoureux twins combined for five points to help down the Beavers 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

"We gave up a lot of goals this weekend, which is unusual for us, but it happens," said head coach Steve Sertich. "We have to have better defense, clear the zone better and we didn't, and they made us pay for it."

The Beavers looked to start the game a bit stronger than the night before after the Sioux opened the game with four goals in the first period. Out of the gates Bemidji State looked sharp, but had a hard time generating offense and didn't get a shot on goal until the 10:06 mark of the period. While the Beaver defense was playing stronger to start the game than the night before, the Sioux still found the back of the net first. At the 16:42 mark Holly Perkins for North Dakota tipped in a loose puck off the rebound from a shot originating from Monique Lamoureux-Kolls. Just three minutes later Jocelyne Lamoureux had the puck and walked across the high slot before taking a low shot that found the back of the net. While still playing a strong period, the Beavers found themselves down 2-0 and out-shot 15-6 at the conclusion of the first period.

The second period saw the Beavers play a better game as Annie Bauerfeld (Sr., Fwd., Woodbury, Minn.) scored to bring the score to 2-1. She scored her fourth of the season after she received the puck from Tess Dusik (Fr., Fwd., Oak Bluff, Manitoba). Bauerfeld walked across the left faceoff circle before sniping UND's tender Stephanie Ney over her glove.

However, the Beavers were unable to keep the Sioux offense contained in the period as UND put up two more goals to go up 4-1. Perkins scored her second goal of the game, before a bizarre turn of events saw Alyssa Wiebe score UND's fourth goal of the game. Wiebe came down on the left side and got a one timer off on a loose puck as Tomcikova was being run into by a mix of players. The initial shot went in and bounced back out to land underneath Tomcikova. The referee signaled no goal, but did not stop play and Allison Parizek came diving in to poke the loose puck in as the referee then signaled a goal. After review the initial shot from Wiebe was ruled a goal. The Beavers and Sioux then skated out the rest of the period and Bemidji State would play the final 20 minutes of the game looking to climb out of a three-goal deficit.

In the third period, the Sioux kept up their consistent offense and netted two more goals to go up 6-1. In the waning minutes of the game the Beavers found themselves on a power play and Erin Cody (Sr., Fwd., Roseville, Minn.) walked in down low on the side of the net and slipped the puck underneath Ney to score the Beavers fourth goal of the weekend.

Bauerfeld and Erin Johnson (Sr., Fwd., Farmington, Minn.) received the assists on the goal.

While dropping both game on the weekend to the Sioux, the Beavers have now killed 24-straight penalties. Bemidji State went 2-10 on the power play for the weekend.

The women's hockey team will return home next weekend hosting Minnesota State on Jan. 21-22. Game times for both days are set for 2:07 p.m.
