U. S. Army Corps of Engineers sponsors kids fishing derby

FEDERAL DAM - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is sponsoring the 22nd annual Kids Fishing Derby July 21 at the Leech Lake Dam and Recreation Area at Federal Dam.

The free event is for children 14 years of age and younger. Registration and activities begin at 11 a.m. and the fishing derby will be held from noon to 1 p.m.

Participants will be registered and compete for prizes in three age groups: 1 to 4 years old; 5 to 9 years old; and 10 to 14 years old. Every participant is guaranteed a prize.

Hot dogs and pop will be served and local merchants will provide the bait. Participants need to bring a fishing pole and officials recommend that they bring and wear a personal flotation device when near the water.
