Two people rescued from burning home in Duluth
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

DULUTH -- Duluth firefighters rescued two people from a burning house Friday afternoon in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

When fire personnel first arrived on the scene just after 1 p.m., they found a man hanging out a rear, first-floor window. Fire was coming from the front door and a window, with heavy smoke at the rear of the house.

“He actually remained pretty calm,” Assistant Fire Chief Bryan Bushey said of the victim. “He was calmly asking firefighters to help him from the window.”

Crews used a ladder to rescue the man, and he told firefighters a second person was still in the home.

A firefighter who climbed a ladder to reach a rear bedroom found the second victim, a woman, surrounded by heavy smoke.

The fire department did not immediately release any information on the victims’ identities or conditions.

Crews had the fire under control about 25 minutes after arriving. The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage, estimated at about $30,000.
