Two killed in head-on collision near Fosston Monday
At approximately 2:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a report of a two-vehicle fatal accident on County Road 6, approximately two miles north of Fosston.
A semi trailer hauling soybeans to the Fosston Elevator, was traveling south on County Road 6 when it collided with a Chevrolet pickup traveling north on the same roadway. At the time of the accident the visibility was less the half a mile. The roadway was snow covered, and slippery.
The impact caused the semi to jack knife and slide into the east ditch. The pickup came to rest on the edge of the roadway.
Both the driver and the passenger were deceased at the scene. Both had been wearing their seatbelts, and air bags deployed. The picked had extensive damage to the front end.
The driver of the semi had no apparent injuries.
This accident is being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The names of the Victims will be released tomorrow 3 p.m. pending family notification.
Additional responding units were the Minnesota State Patrol, Fosston Fire Department and Fosston First Care Ambulance.
