Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday night on Highway 34 east of Detroit Lakes.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol out of Detroit Lakes:

Phyllis A. Winters, 64, of Ponsford, was driving a 1996 Toyota Rav4 eastbound on Highway 34. Kelly J. Newton, 35, of Perham, was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound when the Jeep made an abrupt left turn in front of Winters.

Winters broadsided Newton. Newton's vehicle had also been reported stolen, operating with license plates from another vehicle.

The accident was reported at 7:18 p.m.

Winters and her passenger, Ronald Winters, 67, of Ponsford, received serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. They both were wearing their seat belts.

Newton and the two passengers in the Cherokee - Jared Keezer, 20, of White Earth, and Kenneth Colling, 36, of Ogema - were not injured. It was unknown if any of the three were wearing seat belts.

The Becker County Sheriff's Office assisted on the call.
