Two injured after car-motorcycle collision

BEMIDJI – A Bemidji man has been cited for criminal vehicular operation for a crash southwest of here Sunday evening.

A Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office news release said deputies found marijuana in Steven Greenwood’s possession, and he told officers he had used some prior to the crash.

Greenwood, 26, of Bemidji was issued the citation pending the outcome of chemical tests.

According to the news release, deputies were called to a motorcycle-car crash at 7:04 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Becida Road Southwest and Fern Lake Road Southwest.

Deputies arrived at the scene, about two miles southwest of Bemidji in Grant Valley Township, to find two people in the roadway.

Both people, who had been on a motorcycle, sustained “extreme injuries” and were being helped by citizens who came upon the crash site.

Deputies provided first aid until the arrival of Bemidji firefighters and Bemidji Ambulance, which transported the victims to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Bradley Mordini, 42, and Michelle Sugar, 38, both Bemidji, were airlifted to a Fargo, N.D., hospital.

The news release said Mordini and Sugar both are in critical condition.

Greenwood and a passenger, Melissa Sue Beyer, 27, of Hopkins were questioned by deputies.

According to the news release, officers determined Greenwood, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry, turned south onto Fern Lake Road from Becida Road. He failed to yield right of way and turned in front of the motorcycle.

Neither Greenwood nor Beyer were injured in the collision.

Bemidji police and the Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the crash.
