Two in critical condition after vehicle-bicycle accident
Two people are in critical condition after a vehicle-bicycle accident in Hubbard County early Monday evening.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, officials received a 911 call reporting a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle on County Road 7 near Dorset. The caller also said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
As officers and medical personnel were responding, the suspect vehicle was located on County Road 11. The driver, James Burt, 79, of Park Rapids, refused to pull over for officers and struck another vehicle and a stop sign on County 17 before coming to a stop, officials said. Officers were forced to break out a window on the vehicle to gain access to Burt, according to officials. Burt had head injuries and appeared to be suffering from a medical condition, authorities said.
The injured bicyclist, Linda Larson, 63, of Park Rapids, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital and is listed in critical condition. Burt was transported to a Fargo hospital and is also listed in critical condition.
This case remains under investigation by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.
