Two candidates selected to fill Bemidji school principal positions
Bemidji Area Schools has selected two candidates to replace retiring Lincoln Elementary principal Tom Kusler and Bemidji High School assistant principal Sue Bruns.
Kathy Van Wert has been offered and has accepted the position of principal for Lincoln Elementary. Van Wert has been assistant principal at Bemidji Middle School since November 2006 and came to Bemidji Area Schools with more than eight years of experience as an assistant principal at Duluth Central High School.
Van Wert is a graduate of BHS and Bemidji State University and has been recognized by the Northeast Division of the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals as the 2006 Assistant Principal of the Year.
Lisa Johnson has been offered and has accepted the position of assistant principal for BHS. Johnson comes to Bemidji Area Schools with experience as activities director for Monticello and Mounds View High Schools as well as experience as a secondary math teacher.
Gregg Parks has accepted the position of assistant principal at BMS to fill the vacancy created by Van Wert's move to Lincoln Elementary. Parks comes to Bemidji Area Schools with experience as a principal at Laporte Schools and as a secondary teacher in the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School District.
All appointments are not final until official approval is granted by the Bemidji School Board.
