Two arrested after refusing to stop for police

Two men were taken into custody, one on an outstanding warrant, after refusing to stop for police Wednesday afternoon.

Justin Glawe | Bemidji PioneerAn officer with the Bemidji Police Department attempted to pull over the vehicle in which the men were travelling for a traffic stop in Northern Township. The driver of the vehicle kept driving, according to Bemidji police Sergeant Dave Hanson, but did not reach high speeds. The pair eventually stopped in the parking lot of Beltrami Electric Cooperative, 4111 Technology Dr. NW.

The officer, still waiting for backup to arrive, drew his weapon when the men refused to exit the car. Police searched the vehicle, which had fraudulent Wisconsin license plates, for drugs and weapons. It is not know if any were found. The man arrested on an outstanding warrant gave police a fake name.

The names and ages of the two men were not immediately available.
