Twenty-seven birds saved during Sunday night fire
Bemidji firefighters saved 27 birds while responding to a report of a house fire Sunday evening.
Firefighters also saved the house, a mobile home on the 500 block of Jefferson Avenue Northwest.
The call was made at 10 p.m. Sunday. Twenty-seven firefighters were on scene for about two hours.
The cause, according to Fire Chief Dick Sathers, was the heating tape below the mobile home.
The homeowner was home at the time of the fire and reported having seen smoke, Sathers said.
The homeowner made it out safely and no injuries were reported.
There were multiple birds, such as parakeets, inside the home. The Fire Department reported that 27 birds were saved during the incident.
