Triathlon: Gorman wins Chippewa Triathlon in Cass Lake

CASS LAKE -- David Gorman of Minneapolis completed Saturday's Chippewa Triathlon in 4:50.32 and won the individual men's division championship, nipping Tom Heinrich of Baudette by less than two minutes.

The men's individual division featured 10 competitors and eight of them finished the canoe, bike and running legs. Heinrich was a close second as he completed the course in 4:52.05. Placing a distant third was Steven Otto of Cohasset who hit the finish line in 5:11.08.

Robert Saxton of Bemidji was fifth (5:11.51) and Brent Matzke was sixth (5:15.38).

Deanne Kivi of Solway was the lone finisher in the individual women's division and she won with a time of 5:27.57. A pair of competitors from Duluth started the women's individual race but did not finish.

In the men's doubles division, a team captained by Ryan Rogers of Bemidji was 10th (4:24.01) and another captained by Tim Duffy of Bemidji was 15th (4:44.15).

Dan Rogers teamed with Laura Rogers in the mixed doubles and finished eighth. Laura Rogers was ninth. Bailey Drewes and Henry Drewes competed as a team in the canoe and bike legs and Bailey Drewes eventually placed 12th while Henry Drewes was 16th.

In the 2-person competitive division, Joe Furuseth and Eric Carlson of Bemidji finished fifth. In the competitive relay division, Leif Ronnander of Bemidji, Devin Arenz of Cass Lake and Brett Arenz of Cass Lake combined for a winning time of 3:36.45.

In the non-competitive relay division, Tony Gustafson, Kristy Moen, Luke Samsa and Travis Moen of Bemidji won in 5:45.34.
