Trent R. DeMaris, 17, of Montevideo, Minn., died on Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis due to an accidental shooting.
Trent Robert DeMaris was born on Feb. 3, 1991 in Milbank, S.D. He was baptized at South Shore, S.D., and attended school in Wilmot, S.D. In 1997 he moved with his family to Montevideo, where he attended Montevideo Public Schools. He was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church on Oct. 6, 2006 and received his GED a year earlier than expected. He enjoyed working on go-carts and bikes, fishing, drawing, skateboarding, playing tennis and canoeing.
Surviving Trent are his parents, Jeff and Mary Peterson; siblings, A.J. (Jessica) DeMaris of Ortley, S.D., Amanda DeMaris of Summit, S.D., Tom Peterson of Montevideo, KrisAnn Peterson of Cheyenne, Wyo., Tanner DeMaris of Montevideo, Kassi Peterson of Willmar, Minn., and Katie Peterson of Montevideo; grandparents, Bruce and Joyce Peterson of Montevideo and Robert Manderfeld of Marvin, S.D.; great-grandmother, Mildred Midtovne of Milbank, S.D.; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Preceding Trent in death were his grandmother, Barb Manderfeld; great grandparents: Carl Midtovne, Vivian Tibbals and Virgil and Elsie Mastin; and by an uncle, Jerry Manderfeld.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo, with the Rev. Charles Leonard officiating. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery No. 2 in Marvin, S.D.
Casket bearers were A.J. DeMaris, Tom Peterson, Tanner DeMaris, Kassi Peterson, Katie Peterson and Zach Chapa. Honorary casket bearers were Amanda DeMaris, KrisAnn Peterson, Chris Holen, Travis Gjerdahl and his nieces and nephews, Ethan, Brendon, Xavier, Kylie, Kaylie, Bianca, Kaden and Eliana.
