Trappers may register pelts Dec. 6 at Bemidji DNR office

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds northwestern Minnesota fur trappers to register their pelts in December and January at one of several furbearer registration stations.

Furbearers (all species) may be registered between noon and 7 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bobcat and otter only registration will be held between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Jan. 10, or by appointment as needed at the following locations:

E Park Rapids Area Wildlife Office, 603 First St. W., 218-732-8452.

E Backus DNR Forestry Office, 4391 State Highway 371, 218-947-3232.

E Baudette Area Wildlife Office, 204 Main St. E., 218-634-1705.

E Roseau City Center, Library Meeting Room, 101 Center St. E.

E Thief Lake WMA Office, Middle River, 42280 240th Ave. NE, 218-222-3747.

E Wadena National Guard Armory, 517 N. Jefferson, 218-732-8452.

E Warroad DNR Forestry Office (Dec. 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.), 804 Cherne Drive NW, 218-386-1304.

E Gene Knutson residence (Dec. 6 from noon to 2 p.m.), Roosevelt/Warroad area, 218-634-1705 in Baudette; 218-783-6861 at Norris Camp.

Pelts must be removed from the carcass and thawed for inspection purposes. The entire carcass of each bobcat and the heads of each pine marten and fisher will also be collected at the time of registration. Trappers must present completed site validation coupons for each fisher, pine marten and river otter when presenting these pelts for registration. The site validation tags must be notched, indicating the date and time of harvest. Trappers could obtain four otter tags and five fisher/marten tags, which are available upon request.

To expedite registration, trappers need their license and should bring the following written information for each animal to be registered: species; sex; date and location taken (county, township and range); method of take, including type of trap used; and the DNR number as shown on the license.
