Bulldogs open seaon at BSU indoor
The Northome-Kelliher-Blackduck Bulldogs began their 2010 season by participating in the Little Amik 2 meet at BSU March 30. Eighteen teams participated in the meet.
The girls opened the meet with the 4x800 meter relay team of Roxie Kalroos, Samantha Hendrickson, Katey Lutz and Kayla Olson placing third with a time of 11:24.
The boys 4x800 team of Butch Strand, Brandon Schmid, Keith Shaughnessy and Caleb Schneider followed and earned a sixth place finish with a time of 9:52.
Lutz then moved over to the high jump and placed seventh with a jump of 4' 8". Tyler Dobmeier also jumped well in the high jump. Dobmeier leapt to a third place with a jump of 5'6".
Schneider then returned to the track for the open 800 meter. Schneider turned in a 2:21.1 run to place seventh. Meanwhile, Carrie Carrigan was placing sixth in the shot put with a 27' 11" effort.
To end the day, the girls 4x400 team of Kalroos, Hendrickson, Lutz and Olson sprinted to a sixth place finish with a 4:56.98. The boys team of Strand, Shaughnessy, Dobmeier and Schneider also had a very positive run placing seventh with a 4:06.44.
Olson just missed placing with a ninth place run in the 1600 and Justine Frenzel placed ninth in the 3200.
Many of the times posted both individually and in the relays were even with or a little ahead of last year.
Overall, the girls posted 14 points that was good enough for a 13th place finish. The boys ended up with 13 points and a 17th place finish.
Both teams scored more points than they have in several years. The meet showed that the Bulldogs are ready for a competitive and exciting season.
The next meet for the Bulldogs in April 6 back at BSU.
