TRACK: Larva, Sautbine set Bemidji State records
DES MOINES, Iowa — Seniors Ashley Larva and Taylor Sautbine each posted new school records Friday as they led the Bemidji State outdoor track and field team at the Viking Classic in Des Moines, Iowa.
The seniors headlined a team that placed in the top four in seven different events.
Larva clocked a time of 14.41 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to place second among the field and shave 0.28 from a school mark she set just six days before at the Central Open (14.69). In addition, Larva also took fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles posting a time of 1 minute, 06.11 seconds.
Sautbine’s new school record came out of a fast 100-meter race. She trimmed 0.05 seconds from her own school standard of 12.24 recorded last spring, by crossing the finishing line fourth and stopping the clock at 12.19. Her time also stands as the second fastest 100 of the 2013 outdoor NSIC season.
The seniors teamed up as a part of the Beavers’ 4x100-meter dash team that broke the tape in a time of 49.85 to edge the field.
Other BSU student-athletics placing well at the meet were: Sara Melom, senior Tina Larson and Tess Boucher.
Melom piled up a pair of second-place finishes at the meet. She turned in a team season-best mark of 26.36 in the 200-meter dash, while clearing five feet (1.5 meters) in the high jump.
Boucher collected her first first-place finish in the javelin with a heave of 105 feet and 11 inches (32.30 meters)—a distance that surpassed her previous season-best by more than four feet.
Finally, Larson, a senior, posted a time of 5:01.12 in the 1,500-meter run to clime third place.
