TRACK AND FIELD: Section 8-2A meet continues today for BHS in Thief River Falls
THIEF RIVER FALLS — The Bemidji High School track and field team continues its hunt to qualify as many athletes as possible for the state meet today when it travels to Thief River Falls for the Section 8-2A championships.
Truedson took third place in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 53.08 seconds — beating the state standard time to make state. Wall also placed third but beat the state standard time as well.Today Wall, Truedson and their teammates will look to go to state in multiple events. “Our best chances to qualify athletes to the state meet are the girls’ 4x800, and hopefully we can get a school record too,” BHS girls head coach Chris Lehman said.
Lehman also thinks Wall can make state in the 400 and Truedson, the defending section state state champion in the 1,600, should be favored to return in that race. Megan Serratore also has a chance in the 800, as she is seeded second. Hope Hickman is seeded No. 4 in the pole vault. The 400-meter relay team os Serratore, Wall, Truedson and Amy Carey is the two-time defending section champion.“Both relays will be very competitive races where it could be any teams’ race,” Lehman said. Lehman also noted he hopes to be in the running for second place overall as a team. “Alex looks like the team to beat for the team title,” he said. “We are hoping we can go after the secondplace trophy. I believe it will come down to Sartell and Bemidji for second place in the team points.”
On the boys side, Sam Carlson is seeded first in the 800-meter run after breezing to the win in Wednesday’s preliminaries; he’s also seeded near the top of the 1,600-meter run.
The boys 800 meter relay team is seeded second with a time of 8:14.04.
The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. today in Thief River Falls with the field events while the track events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
