Carlson ran the race in 1 minute, 54.63 seconds, finishing second in his heat. He beat Alex Schoneberger’s previous record of 1:54.95.

Carlson was one of five Lumberjacks participating in events Friday; he was the only one to qualify for the finals today.

Maea Wall placed ninth — just off the medal stand, in the long jump. She had a leap of 17 feet, 1.25 inches.

“Maea has some good quality jumps today,” BHS coach Steve Sneide said. “It was a deep field in the long jump this year.”

Roseville Area’s Tianna McKinney was just ahead of wall at 17-2.5. Minnetonka’s Mia Barron won the title at 19-1.5.

Wall also just missed out in the 400 meter dash.

“Maea got out perfect in her first 200 and came up just a bit short of the finals,” Sneide said. “She ran 58.65 and missed finals by .1 seconds.”

Jenna Truedson, running in the 3,200, took fifth with a time of 10:41.10. Emily Castanias of Chanhassen took first in the race with a time of 10:28.58.

The final BHS entry, the 400-meter relay consisting of Wall, Truedson, Megan Serratore and Amy Carey, also ran well but just missed out on the finals.

“The girls ran a new school record but just missed making the finals,” Sneide said. “They ran 3:58.64 and missed finals by .22 seconds.”

Truedson will return today for the 1,600 meter run today. The 2013 champion in the race, the junior is seeded fourth after finishing in 4:58.30 in the Section 8AA meet last week.

Carlson will also return for races today. In addition to the 800 finals, he will be running in the 1,600 as well.
