The Bemidji High track teams staged a rare home appearance Tuesday, taking second place in strong fields at a quadrangular.

Moorhead won the boys meet with 113.5 points to 77.5 for Bemidji,. Grand Rapids was a distant third with Detroit Lakes fourth.


Grand Rapids won the girls title with 96 points to 86.5 for Bemidji. Detroit Lakes had 46 and Moorhead 26.5.

Bemidji had its usual number of outstanding performances but lost on depth.

In the girls meet, Jessy Bruns was a triple winner, taking the 200, 400 and long jump.

Kim Truedson won the 3200, and Amanda Hunt the high jump.

Bemidji also took the 400 relay with Grand Rapids leading in the other three,

Jessica Cagle of the Thunderhawks dominated the weights, winning the shot at 43-2 and the discus at 156-9. She is the defending state champion in the discus and headed to Minnesota to continue her career next fall..

Grand Rapids won eight events to six for Bemidji.

Boys meet

It was the same story in the boys divisions where Moorhead piled up points all day on seconds, thirds and fourths.

Travis Greenwaldt was a double winners for the Jacks, taking the 100 and 200.

Erik Truedson won the 3200 in 9:47.37 for a family sweep of the event.

Luke Bruns took the pole-vault at 12-0.

Bemidji also won the 800 and 1600 relays and Joe Kingery claimed the discus, giving Bemidji seven wins in the 18 event meet. Moorhead had only six.
