If the weather does not allow play outdoors, the tennis tournament will be moved to the indoor courts in Sartell.

The Lumberjacks tennis squad received the sixth seed in the sub-section tournament and will open against third-seeded Fergus Falls at 9 a.m. today.

Other first-round pairings match No. 2 Brainerd against No. 7 Alexandria and fourth-seeded Moorhead against fifth-ranked Apollo.

St. Cloud Tech received the top seed and a first-round bye. It will draw the winner of the Moorhead-Apollo match in the second round. If Bemidji claims its opener it will play either Brainerd or Alexandria.

The sub-section semifinal winners both advance to next week's section meet.

"Hopefully, we will play our best tennis of the year," said BHS coach Scott Engelstad. "We can compete with Fergus Falls but we need to minimize our errors and leave everything on the court. There is no tomorrow."

Earlier this spring the Otters handed Bemidji a 6-1 loss at Fergus Falls.

"We lost a couple of close matches that day," Engelstad said. "Our goal today is to play our best, keep things close and see which team is standing at the end."

The individual portion of the section tournament will be Thursday morning.

Bemidji's softball team will be home 6 p.m. Wednesday for its initial Section 8AAA game.

The Lumberjacks were ranked third in the section and drew a first-round bye. They will play either No. 6 Monticello or No. 11 St. Cloud Apollo in the second round. Those teams will battle in Bemidji at 4 p.m. The loser will be eliminated and the winner will face Bemidji.

If the Jacks prevail Wednesday they will return to duty Memorial Day Monday at noon at the home of the highest remaining seed.

Brainerd received the top seed while Big Lake was second, Bemidji third, Alexandria fourth and Elk River fifth.

In addition to the Monticello-Apollo first-round game, Sartell (No. 7) will play Moorhead (No. 10) in Big Lake and Tech (No. 8) will face Sauk Rapids (No. 9) at Brainerd.
