In the girls state competition, Jenna Truedson finished 66th and Morgan Sagedahl was 87th.

The pursuit format called for a 5-km freestyle race in the morning and a 5-km classic leg in the afternoon.

Faring best in the overall boys competition was Jakob Ellingson of Hopkins who won with a combined time of 29:24.4. His 14:41 effort in the freestyle was the fastest of any of the 119 competitors and he was able to maintain his overall lead by completing the classic portion of the race in 14:43.4.

Kyle Sagedahl’s times were 16:04 in the freestyle, 16:08.1 in the classic and 32:12.1 overall. Tony Sagedahl completed the freestyle in 16:23 and the classic in 16:43.5 for a total time of 33:06.5.

“This is a very tough course,” said BHS coach Mark Walters. “Kyle and Tony both came a little short of their goal of finishing in the top 25 but they both had solid races.

“The field was packed in the morning race and in the afternoon classic race Kyle took a tumble when the kid next to him went down. That fall cost him six or seven places.”

Anna Kubek of Duluth East dominated the girls race and finished with an overall time of 33:58.9.

Truedson completed her freestyle leg in 19:30 and her classic race in 19:25.3 for a total time of 38:55.3.

Morgan Sagedahl’s overall time was 40:06.5. The freshman completed the freestyle leg in 20:00 and the classic leg in 20:06.5.

“This was the first time for Jenna and Morgan at state and Thursday they set their benchmarks,” Walters said. “They were both very happy with their performances. They felt good about making it to state and they both skied as hard as they could.”
