Thrivent donates to Food Shelf
The Beltrami County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans recently gave $750 to the Bemidji Community Food Shelf. The funding is part of a $76,000 grant given by Thrivent Financial's regional financial offices in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin to thank its volunteers and to support Minnesota FoodShare.
Thrivent chapters, whose local members gather for charitable, social and educational activities, received the funding based on the number of activities they sponsored that supported the community in 2009. Additional funding ranged from $500 to $1,000 per qualifying chapter.
"We are proud of the charitable, social and educational activities performed by our members," said Joy Peterson, manager of services for Thrivent Financial's 116 chapters across Minnesota Division. "This funding recognizes the good work our members every day to improve people's lives and do good in their communities."
The Beltrami Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans is led by President Ray Klug of Blackduck. He leads a volunteer board of 10 members who allocate Thrivent Financial funding and volunteer activity in support of local needs. The chapter is also advised by Thrivent Financial representatives Wayne Tieman, Thomas Schwartz and Allen Zutz.
