Three fire departments respond to house burning near Park Rapids

HUBBARD COUNTY -- A vacant log residence off County Road 81 in Hubbard County was an inferno Thursday morning that required three fire departments to respond to.

Park Rapids called in Nevis and Menahga under mutual aid agreements around 9 a.m.. Black smoke could be seen pouring from the structure for miles.

Dozens of firefighters converged on the scene as assistant chiefs Terry Long and Mike Ridlon had their hands full directing traffic into the site, a half mile off the gravel road by Switzer Lake.

Trucks were able to refill from a small lake near the property.

The house was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.

The house was listed for sale.
