Three with Bemidji ties still alive at MGA
HASTINGS - Three golfers with ties to Bemidji are still alive in the Minnesota Golf Association's Men's Amateur Championship at Hastings Country Club.
Thomas Strandemo, Johnny Larson and Clinton Cornell all made the cut past Thursday's second round, and will compete in today's final round.
Sixty-three players made the cut at 154.
Strandemo, who ended Monday's first round tied for third, was tied for 20th place after the second round, shooting a 76. He has a two-day total of 148.
Strandemo, of the Mahnomen Country Club, will be participating in this year's Birchmont.
Reigning Birchmont champion Larson, playing out of Bemidji Town & Country Club, was tied for 30th place with a combined total of 150. He shot 74 Tuesday.
Cornell, a 2008 Bemidji State graduate , fell from 25th to 38th place in round two, shooting a 76. He is playing out of Pokegama Golf Club in Grand Rapids.
Three other golfers with Bemidji ties failed to make the cut. Current BSU golfer John Hafdal as well as Birchmont participants Dan Cavanagh and Sean Matthew, didn't rank in the top 60 after the second day.
Frederick Van Rooyen has the lead after two rounds, shooting 140.
