Thomas "Tommy" Matt Hardwig

Thomas “Tommy” Hardwig, 83, of Bemidji, MN died on Friday, May 17, 2013 in Bemidji, MN.

There will be a visitation from 5:30-6:30pm, followed by memory sharing until 7:00pm, on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji, MN.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday May 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s Catholic Church with Father Craig Vasek officiating. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji, MN at a later date. The Cease Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Thomas was born on August 9, 1929 at Littlefork, MN the son of William and Rosamunda (Promersberger) Hardwig. Thomas grew up and graduated from Littlefork High School and continued his education in Duluth at the Brick Layers Trade School. He became a Mason and had an artist’s eye for hand splitting stone and building fireplaces. Many examples of his fine work can be seen throughout the Bemidji area and beyond. He married Patricia Hanks on March 5, 1952. In 1954 Tommy and Patricia made Bemidji their home. Here he worked and they raised their family. He enjoyed deer hunting in Littlefork with his sons, brothers, and nephews and spending time in his wife’s flower garden visiting friends, and neighbors. Tommy loved playing cards, especially smeer. His wife, children and grandchildren were his heart, and he theirs. Tommy was dearly loved by many and will be missed. One of the good guys has left us.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Helen, Herbert, Marie, Joe and Bill, Paul Lewis his son-in-law, and Little Dog, Tiger Lily.
