Thomas "Tom" Dale Vincent Sr.
Thomas "Tom" Dale Vincent Sr. passed away in his sleep on October 6, 2013 at home in the care of his wife, family, and Hospice.
He was born on April 23, 1935 in Elgin IL to David and Florence (Annis) Vincent. The family moved to Bemidji, MN. He lived on the family farm and worked for neighbors as he grew up. He told many stories of logging with horses and took pride in the fact that he could load the railcars with logs on his own. He also worked with horses to cut blocks of Ice in the winter on Long Lake, north of the family farm. Tom was drafted into the Army and served from March of 1958 to March of 1960. He was called back up in October of 1961. He married Joyce JoAnn Bohlmann (Klasen) on Jan 6, 1962 in Virginia, where they lived until he was discharged in August of 1962. They then moved to Walum, ND, then Hannaford, ND where he worked for his brother, constructing steel buildings, grain bins, and doing cement work. The family moved back to the farm in Bemidji, MN in 1971, where he worked for his nephew, driving truck and heavy equipment, doing road construction and snow removal for local businesses. He loved going to auction sales and bought and sold scrap metal for many years. He raised pigs, sheep, beef cows, and had dairy cattle for a number of years. He loved being outdoors and tramping the woods.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce; children, Dale Bohlmann, Gale (Jeff) Johnson, Tom (Vanessa) Vincent, Jr, and Joy (Daniel) Kelm; grandchildren, Michael/Brandy (Jenny) Bohlmann, Luke and Troy Faughn, Amanda, Monica, and Nikita Vincent, Rob, Roy, Shawn (Jenny) and Carl (Katrina) Kelm; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gem Kerr, Calvin Vincent, Ida Heggie, Avis Kelm, Marge Hirt, James Vincent, Charlotte McDonald, Charles (Linda) Vincent, Grace (Melvin) Olsen and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law John Stephen Faughn, great-grandson Jack Daniel Kelm, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and niece Lori Vincent.
A memorial will be held at Eckles Community Center on Sunday, October 13th, 2013 at 1pm.
