Thomas "Tom" Conway, 92, of Bemidji, Minn., died July 26, 2012 at Tamarack Court Assisted Living in Bemidji.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 30 at St. Philips Catholic Church with Fr. Craig Vasek officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, July 29 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji.

Casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Becky Voyda, John Voyda, David Voyda, Carrie Yavarow, Joe Voyda, Tom Jenkins, Andy Jenkins, Christopher Conway, Joel Conway, Brian Olson, Emily Olson and Brad Olson.

Thomas R. Conway was born July 11, 1920 in St. Paul, Minn. to William and Nell (Richards) Conway. He grew up in the Como Park area of St. Paul, and attended St. Andrew's Elementary School.

The Conway family moved to Bemidji where they built Conway's Sandy Beach Resort on Big Lake. Tom worked as a fishing guide while living at the resort. Tom graduated from Bemidji High School in 1939.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 15, 1946 he married Angela Poppenberg in Bemidji. They lived in Bemidji where he worked at the Chevy Garage, had Bud & Tom's Auto Re-pair, worked as a salesman at Nichols & Shanahan and later worked for Skaar's Distributing until retiring.

He loved his work and finally retired at age 78. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Tom had a love for the outdoors, was a terrific athlete (especially baseball), enjoyed going to deer camp and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Mary Conway of Bemidji, Lois (Duane) Jenkins of Bemidji, Jim (Gail) Conway of Bemidji and Jerrie (David) Olson of Bemidji; 12 grand-children and eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack (Dolores) Hunt of Bemidji; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Conway of Bemidji, Myrna Conway of Bemidji and Donna Poppenberg of Bemidji.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Angela; four brothers, Bill, Bob, Chuck and Edward; three sisters, Kay, Eileen and Dorothy; and two great-granddaughters, Anna Yavarow and Kathryn Yavarow.
