Things are looking up for the Jacks
Heading into a road match against Moorhead on Sept. 5, the Bemidji High School volleyball team was 0-3 and searching for direction.
“We were a young and an experienced team and we really put things together that night,” Colligan said.
Since the 0-3 start, Bemidji has posted a 14-10 record, including winning five of its last six contests, to earn the No. 3 seed in the Section 8-3A tournament.
“Any momentum is good momentum,” Colligan said. “The girls are playing well and they have a never-give-up attitude. They come in to each match focused on getting a win and they will do whatever it takes to get that win.”On Friday, the Lumberjacks fought off No. 11 seed Sartell in a five-game thriller to advance to the section semifinals. After falling behind 2-1, Bemidji bounced back to win the next two games 26-24 and 15-13.“I think it was a very good confidence builder,” Colligan said. “I think the best thing about it was that we faced a tough opponent and we never gave up and fought through the entire match.”Unlike the meeting on Sept. 5, tonight’s contest will likely take more than three games to be decided. Including Friday’s three-game win over Big Lake, Moorhead has won five of its last six matches and nine of its last 12.“It is going to take a lot of focus and some really good defense in order to win,” Colligan said. “We have to clean up things on our end a little bit, too. The biggest thing is controlling what we can control.”Tonight’s game begins at 7 p.m. in Moorhead.
