Thief River Falls man arrested in stabbing death
The stabbing death of a 23-year-old man in Thief River Falls has led authorities to arrest a 19-year-old suspect.
Matthew Raymond Shepard has died as a result of stab wounds, said Dave Carlson, the supervisor of Pennington County's emergency dispatch center.
Shepard was dropped off at MeritCare Hospital in Thief River Falls on Monday night with stab wounds, according to a news release from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office.
A nursing supervisor in the hospital's emergency room called the sheriff's office at 10:15 p.m to alert law enforcement of the man's wounds, the release says.
Daniel Scott Molstad of Thief River Falls was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing, but he has not been charged. A message left for Molstad at the Pennington County jail was not immediately returned Wednesday.
The release says the matter remains under investigation and that, for now, no other information will be made public.
Messages left Wednesday with the deputy investigating the case, the sheriff and the county attorney have not been returned.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Thief River Falls Police Department are assisting in the investigation.
