Theresa Dawson

Former Cogswell and Oakes, N.D., resident Theresa Dawson, 89, of Frazee, died on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.

Theresa Flynn, daughter of Tom and Cecilia (McFarland) Flynn, was born on Nov. 23, 1919 at Gwinner, N.D. She married Floyd Dawson in 1941 at Forman, N.D. The couple farmed northeast of Cogswell, N.D., until 1969, when they moved into Cogswell. In the fall of 1983, Theresa and Floyd moved to Oakes, N.D. After retiring, the couple enjoyed spending the winter months in Weslaco, Texas and summers in Oakes.

Floyd died in 1991, and Theresa moved to Detroit Lakes that same year, to be near her daughter Pat Gibson. She became a resident at the Frazee Assisted Living Center in 1993.

Theresa was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Cogswell. She was an excellent cook and baker, and was known for her doughnuts. Theresa enjoyed sewing, making many crafts as well as playing cards, bingo and dominoes. Most of all, Theresa loved hosting gatherings for family and friends. She was very proud of her Irish heritage.

Surviving Theresa are her two daughters, Pat Gibson of Frazee and Pam (Tom) Ruszowski of Aurora, Colo.; three sons, Jim (Judy) Dawson of Rosemount, Minn., Terry (Sandy) Dawson of Oakes and Harvey (Phyllis) Dawson of Brampton, N.D.; two sisters, Helen (Will) Skogman of Buffalo, Minn., and Elaine Molstad of Arlington, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Preceding Theresa in death were her husband Floyd; parents, Tom and Cecilia; one daughter, Peggy Dawson; one son-in-law, Larry Gibson; four brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30 at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes, N.D.

Funeral services ware scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Oakes, with burial to take place this spring at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cogswell.
