Theodore "Ted" Thorson
Theodore "Ted" Thorson Jr., 63, of Bemidji, MN, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Pastor Corey Fuhrman officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2014 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Aardahl Lutheran Cemetery, Bemidji, MN.
Theodore William Thorson Jr. was born October 1, 1950 in St. Paul, MN to Theodore Winton and Margaret (Anderson) Thorson. He grew up in Wisconsin and Illinois. He came to Bemidji in 1966 where he graduated from Bemidji High School and Bemidji State University with a degree in instrumental music. On December 19, 1970 he married Cynthia Premo in Bemidji. They lived in Bemidji where he worked for Premo Construction and taught instrumental music. They later divorced and on April 10, 1996 he married Carolyn Kroll in Bemidji. His joys included playing with the Shades of Soul Band, riding motorcycles, reading, doing crossword puzzles, poetry and music including the Native American flute. One of the greatest joys was to be director of the Senior Bell Choir and singing with the choirs of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Thorson of Bemidji; parents Ted and Margaret Thorson of Bemidji; daughters Amy (Josh) Albert of Medina, MN and Wendy (Jake) Vessey of Rogers, MN; step-sons Alfred (UnKyong) Lyons Jr. of North Carolina, Arthur (Katherine) Lyons of Houston, TX and Mitchell Lyons of California; step-daughter Jennifer (James) Dahl of Bemidji; grandsons Maxwell and Henry Albert and Wyatt and Jack Vessey;
step-grandchildren Emily Lyons, Danial Lyons, Alden Dahl and Codey Dahl; brothers Robert (Kristine) Thorson of Storrs, CT, James Thorson of Deerwood, MN, Leif (Katherine) Thorson of St. Anthony, MN, Erik Thorson of Bemidji and Thor (Kimm) Thorson of Brainerd, MN and sister Ingrid (Peter) Koller of North St. Paul, MN.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Theodore (T.W.) and Lillian Thorson and maternal grandparents Perry and Lilly Anderson.
