Theodore "Ted" John Haberer, 78, of Park Rapids, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Diamond Willow Care Center in Park Rapids.

He was born Feb. 25, 1931 in Park Rapids to John George and Mary "Stella" (Potter) Haberer.


He was baptized Sept. 30, 1931 and confirmed on July 8, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.

He grew up and went to school in Park Rapids, where he graduated from high school in 1949.

He began working at Fick Rexall Drug Store in Park Rapids as a high school student. He went on to study pharmacy at NDSU in Fargo, N.D., where he graduated from the school of pharmacy on July 20, 1954. He returned to Park Rapids, where he was hired as a pharmacist at Fick Rexall Drug. He also worked full time for many years for Mike Vettel at the Pharmacy Shoppe.

Although he hadn't worked full-time for a while, he continued to work part-time at the Pharmacy Shoppe when he was needed on weekends and holidays. This past December he became ill with leukemia.

He was a lifetime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, serving in many leadership roles.

He is survived by his cousins: Richard Haberer, of Park Rapids, and Carol Hall, of Faribault; as well as many other cousins and relatives.

Casket bearers: Mike Vettel, Larry Fick, Bill Valtinson, Dick Haberer, Arnie Wenger, Doug Belshan and Pastor Donald Fondow.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), June 24 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Officiant will be Rev. Bill Neumann. Connie Wallert will be the organist. Wayne Schroeder will be the soloist, singing "Just a Closer Walk With Thee." Congregational Hymns will be "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "Abide With Me" and "What Life is This."

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
