TENNIS: Jacks remain unbeaten with 6-1 victory at Detroit Lakes
DETROIT LAKES -- The Bemidji boys tennis team maintained its unbeaten status Tuesday as the Lumberjacks improved to 5-0 with a 6-1 victory at Detroit Lakes.
BHS swept the doubles and captured three of the four singles matches.
At first doubles Kole Pankow and Gabe Heifort teamed for a 6-1, 6-3 win and the second doubles tandem of Garrett Atteberry and Evan White cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 triumph.
Capping the doubles wins was the 6-1, 5-7 (5-7), (10-7) win by Rocky Copiskey and Spencer Konecne at third doubles.
In singles action Matt Hokanson was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at first, Noah Holter breezed 6-1, 6-1 at second and Sam Howard posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at fourth.
Bemidji's lone setback came at third singles where Robert Treuer fell 6-3, 6-1.
"It was great to play tennis under ideal conditions. I think it took everyone a few games to adjust to playing without cold and wind," said BHS coach Mark Fodness.
"We played a different lineup today and wanted to move some players around to give us some flexibility in upcoming matches. Matt and Noah continued their strong singles play and it was good experience for Robert and Sam to play at third and fourth singles," Fodness continued.
"Our doubles teams played well. We'd like to see a stronger finish after dominating the first sets but, overall, we did play pretty well."
The Jacks will head to Thief River Falls on Thursday.
