The Lumberjacks took second place with 11 points, behind winner Thief River Falls (15 points). Host Crookston had 10 points and East Grand Forks 6.

"We felt that we would battle Thief River Falls for the title and that's pretty much how it turned out," head coach Mark Fodness said. "We lost a couple of matches to Crookston that I felt we could have won and a couple to TRF that we had a chance to flip in our direction."

None of the Bemidji singles or doubles teams scored the maximum three points in the tournament.

At No. 1 singles Matt Hokanson went 2-1, losing only to East Grand Forks' Ty Misialek. Sam Howard also went 2-1 at No. 3 singles, losing to Thief River Falls' Ethan Johnson.

The No. 2 doubles team of Kole Pankow and Garret Atteberry and the No. 3 team of Evan White and Rocky Copiskey each went 2-1; both teams lost to Crookston doubles teams.

"It was a good battle overall, and shows how important a few matches can be in this type of tournament," Fodness said. "It will be good motivation for us to be ready to play TRF and Crookston in head-to-head matches."

The Lumberjacks are scheduled to take on Brainerd in a dual meet today in Brainerd.
