TENNIS: Bemidji tops TRF in hard-fought battle
BEMIDJI — The Bemidji tennis team won six out of seven matches Thursday night, defeating Section 8A foe Thief River Falls 6-1 under the lights at Bemidji High School.
Bemidji’s lone loss on the day came at No. 1 singles, where Claudia Bellew fell to Karlee Jorgenson by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
However, the Lumberjacks won all three other singles matches. Alexis Kocene topped Brandi Malwitz 7-5, 6-0; Abby Kelm beat Elle Jorgenson 6-0, 6-2 and Sarah McNallan topped Callie Fagerstrom in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 12-10.
In doubles play, the Lumberjacks swept.
Annkia Johnson and Olivia Dickenson topped Sabrina Okeson and Kora Torkelson 6-2, 4-6, 10-4; Kenzie Schultz and Jenna Lee defeated Juliet Tunberg and Carly Lunsetter 6-1, 6-2 and Nicolette Roy and Kayla Snell beayt Allison Okerson and Shawna Spears 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Lumberjacks return to the court today when they travel to Moorhead to take on Moorhead and Fergus Falls in a triangular.
