Tax counselors needed at Senior Center
Volunteer tax counselors are needed for the AARP/Paul Bunyan Senior Activity Center tax assistance program for the elderly and low income.
Almost all tax returns are prepared on computer. About 40 hours of computer and tax preparation training will be provided by trained volunteers, IRS and Minnesota Revenue. Training materials include the 1040 books, publication 17, a workbook and an open-book test. The open-book test will be completed on the computer. Upon satisfactory completion of the open book test, volunteers will become certified as ARP tax counselors.
Tax preparation counselors will be at the Paul Bunyan Senior Activity Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from Jan. 25 through April 15. Volunteer counselors are asked to provide at least 40 hours of counseling. The AARP Foundation provides all certified counselors mileage reimbursement for the training sessions and while providing tax preparation assistance. Accident insurance is also provided to volunteers.
Individuals interested in assisting with the program should contact Ralph Brose at 335-8933 or email@example.com or call the Paul Bunyan Senior Activity Center at 751-8836 and leave a message with Diane.
