The purpose of the Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing program is to promote an outdoor-oriented lifestyle among the area’s youth by showing them the enjoyment that can be found in fishing. Since its inception in 1987, the program has worked with more than 4,000 kids ages 10 to 15.
Each year, between 75 and 80 adult guides volunteer their time, equipment and expertise to help make a positive event for the community’s youth.
The Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing application will be submitted for consideration to the statewide Minnesota Touchstone Energy Community Award committee.
The overall winner will receive $1,000 toward a community cause of choice. It will be presented in Febraury during the Minnesota Rural Electric Association’s annual meeting in St. Paul.
